Wat zit er in voor de retailers?
Een groot voordeel voor Amerikaanse retailers die zaken doen in Australië is het feit dat er over het algemeen geen grote culturele tegenslag is met Aussies wanneer Amerikaanse merken en winkels naar de stad verhuizen. Australiërs hebben al een vast dieet van Amerikaans entertainment met Amerikaanse muziek, tv en films. Winkelen in een aantal van de grootste in de VS gevestigde winkelketens lijkt een natuurlijke en logische uitbreiding van de toch al doordringende Amerikaanse invloed.
Met een bevolking van slechts 23 miljoen is Australië vaak over het hoofd gezien door internationale retailers vanwege de relatief geïsoleerde locatie en het gebrek aan stadscentra met een kritieke massa aan consumenten. Australië is sinds de Grote Recessie een populairdere bestemming geworden voor Amerikaanse en wereldwijde winkelketens, met name voor bedrijven die proberen te ontsnappen aan de overvallende economie en overbevolkte, concurrerende retailmarkten in hun eigen land.
